CATON, John Dean L.L.D.;   Ex-chief Justice of Supreme Court of Ill.  Born Monroe, Orange Co., N.Y., March 19, 1812.  Came to this county in 1842.  His father was a farmer and Quaker preacher.  Had 16 children born to him.  All whom grew to maturity.  He died when John Dean, his 15th child and 12th son was 3 yrs old.  Came to Chicago in 1833, when that place contained but 200 people.  In 1835 he married Laune Adelaide SHERRILL in New Hartford, near Utica, N.Y.
