William Butler

Wm Butler was born in Dundee, Scotland, March, 8, 1818, and died Nov. 30, 1895, at the home of his oldest daughter Mrs G W Wilson in Hardin township. He learned to blacksmith at Dundee, then worked in London. He worked for the first RR company formed in England and afterwards went to France for the same company. He moved to Illinois about 1847 and started a shop in Hardin, LaSalle Co. He joined one of the first trains that crossed the plains to California helping to develop one of the best Gold mines of that country. He afterwards settled on a farm in LaSalle county Ill. He has been a life long Mason and was buried by that order at Prairie Center, Ill. He leaves five children, one son and four daughters. He was of a strong, warm nature that made and kept friends.
