MRS. GEORGE SPENADER CALLED BY DEATH, SATURDAY
MOTHER OF LARGE FAMILY SUCCUMBS AT HOSPITAL FROM COMPLICATIONS RESULTING FROM FRACTURED HIP.
Mrs. George Spenader, 74, a resident of Mendota for almost the past half century, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning, April 24, 1943, at the Harris hospital, following an illness of the past seven weeks. Mrs. Spenader fell near her home on March 5th and fractured her hip and had been a patient at the hospital since that time. She was apparently recovering from her injury when other complications developed and caused her death.
Funeral services were held from Bailey's funeral home Monday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. Stanley Hunt, pastor of the Mendota Advent Christian church, was in charge of the services. Burial was made in Restland cemetery.
Six of her sons, served as pallbearers. They were: Carl, Archie, Harold, William, Frank and Edgar.
Mrs. Spenader, formerly Mary Orrie Parrish, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Parrish (*James), was born at Centralia, Illinois, March 18, 1869. She joined the Christian church early in life and was married to George Spenader on February 15, 1888, at Lebanon, Tenn. The couple had the joyous occasion of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on February 15, 1938. Soon after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Spenader moved to Aurora, where Mr. Spenader was employed by the Burlington railroad company. In 1897, he was transferred to Mendota where he was employed as car repairer and car inspector foreman, for the Burlington railroad, and the couple have lived here since that time. Mr. Spenader was retired on pension nine years ago.
Mrs. Spenader reared a large family, nine sons and two daughters, and she was the first to be called by death from the immediate family group. She was a wonderful wife and mother, beloved by all who knew her and her passing caused sincere sorrow in the community. The host of people who came to pay their respects to the departed and express sympathy told of the high regard in which she was held by all.
Surviving are her husband, George Spenader, nine sons, George Jr. of Galesburg; Carl of Joliet; Lester, Chief Machinist Mate USN Whaleyville, Va.; Sgt. Louis R. of Nashville, Tenn.; Archie, Harold, William, Frank and Edgar of Mendota; Two daughters, Mrs. Maude Johnson of Rock Island, and Mrs. Mayme Holdren of Aurora; two brothers, Archie Parrish of Walnut Ridge, Ark, and William Parrish of LaJunta, Colo.; a sister, Miss Cora Parrish of Walnut ridge, Ark., and fifteen grand-children.
Mrs. Spenader had two sons who served in World War One, and two sons and five grandsons, serving in World War Two.

Louis R. Spenader Nashville, Tenn.; Lieut. Vincent Johnson of Camp Robinson, Ark.; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Billings, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Marliere, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Lieher of LaSalle; Mrs. Morgan Kloster and Miss Mildred Wirsehem of Savanna; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wolge and Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Wolfe of Ottawa; Mrs. Ida Archer and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Holdren of Compton.
