Ernest C. Weiss

1906-1993

Ernest C. Weiss, 87, of 5635 Round Lake Road, Minn., died Thursday at his home.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Mary’s Church in Naplate, the Rev. Jerome N. Ham officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, with prayers at 7 p.m. at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be at the St. Columba Cemetery.

Mr. Weiss was born in Chicago on May 3, 1906, to Christian and Lottie (Sherman) Weiss. He married Myrtle Michael at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Goodland, IN. on Feb. 2, 1928. She died Feb. 8, 1974. He then married Dorothy (Busick) Brown on July 4th, 1984.

He was a steel engraver with the Republic Bank Note Co. In Pittsburgh. He was a master engraver. He was a tool and dye maker during World War II. He came to his family farm in 1946 in Fall River Township. He retired from the farm eight years ago.

Ernie drove the school bus for the Grand Ridge School District. He has been a Fall River Township Road Commissioner. He was a Folk Valley Square Dance Company musician. He often accompanied Grandpa (Schuyler) Michaels, the old-time fiddler. Weiss was a member of the Geritols in Brainerd. He also was a Sunshiner in Apache Junction, where he wintered. He was an Apache Junction Elk.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy; three sons, Sherman of Streator, Michael of Marseilles, and Thomas of Ottawa; two daughters, Mrs. Joel (Mary Jo Perry) Barlow of Ottawa, and Mrs. David (Rogene) Snook of Ottawa; one step-son David Lamser of Brainerd; two step-daughters, Mrs. Dan (Barbara) Martin of Park Rapids, MN, and Laurel Koster of Roseville, MN; 33 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

Pall bearers will be grandsons Paul Perry, Peter and Kevin Snook, John, Tom L., and Mike E Weiss.

Memorials may be directed to the St. Joseph’s Hospice in Brainerd, Minn.
